Rainfall Totals Burlington, Vermont & Nr’rn VT/NY April 26, 2011

Between the 25th and 26th of April alone, the Burlington NWS Office recorded 2.96" of rainfall! The
greatest of all the rainfall between these two dates occurred on the 26th as a series of thunderstorms
rolled through N'rn Vermont and New York. On the 26th, Burlington received 2.74" out of the total
2.96" recorded between the 25th-26th! This shattered the old daily rainfall record of 0.92" set back
in 1961.

All this significant rainfall has caused many areas near rivers and lakes to become flooded. At 9:15AM
this morning (April 27, 2011), a section of the Lamoille River near Johnson crested to 16.97". This
now falls under as the 4th largest crest ever recorded at this location on the Lamoille River.
However, this is far away from the biggest crest to occur at this location set back on 11/04/1927.
An estimated 27ft was recorded back on this date!

Lake Champlain is forecast to be at one of the top 5 highest crests ever recorded at Rouses Point. The current
water level at Rouses Point is at 101.7ft (9:30PM April 27th, 2011) and is forecast to peak to 101.8ft
sometime on the 28th or 29th. This would put this crest at a tie for 4th highest crest set back in
1903. The highest crest ever recorded from Rouses Point was back in 1869 with a peak of 102.1ft.

Unfortunately, we are not out of the woods yet with regards to rainfall. Showers and thunderstorms are still
forecast for the next 24hrs across Burlington and the remainder of Vermont until a strong cold front builds
through the region Thursday night (evening of the 28th). If you live near a stream, river, or lake, please be
very mindful of the water levels until at least Saturday morning.
